Imagine building a whole range of boats, from small wooden pleasure craft and aluminium workboats to large fibreglass racing yachts. The design and construction of a boat’s hull is the domain of the Boat Builder. As a Boat Builder, you’ll be responsible for the structural integrity of the boats you build. You’ll prepare preliminary sketches of structural parts and sections and you’ll produce templates and patterns from full-size detail drawings. And it will be your job to position sections accurately before permanent fastening. If you’re really passionate about boats, or even ships, you could chart your career path towards becoming a Master Boat Builder or Naval Architect. The skills you learn in Boat Building jobs are in high demand and you should be able to find work in many diverse places while being constantly challenged by new technologies. While the work is hard, it is also extremely rewarding. | |||||
